Dr. Nelson is a licensed acupuncturist (L.Ac), diplomate of acupuncture (Dipl. Ac), with a Master’s in Oriental medicine (MAOM), and Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM). He also holds a B.A. in Spanish and is competent in conversational and medical Spanish. He was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia. To pursue his studies, he and his wife moved to Asheville, North Carolina, where he attended Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts. After finishing school, he moved to Roanoke to start his practice and raise his family.

He believes strongly in the wonder acupuncture inspires both in his patients and himself. Acupuncture is an elegant method to promote the body’s spontaneous healing process. As part of his education, Dr. Nelson has been fortunate to receive teachings from Jeffrey Yuen, and explore a Chinese medicine lineage going back thousands of years.

Chinese medicine customizes its treatments for each individual in the moment. Various methods may be employed such as acupuncture, herbs, moxibustion, cupping, gua sha, movements and lifestyle recommendations.
